Michael Gira

  • Michael Gira was the founder and co-leader of the now defunct band, Swans. He is a musician, singer-songwriter, author and artist. He is also the founder of Young God Records.

  • Music Career

    Gira joined the band [Little Cripple while attending art school but later moved to New York City and joined the band Circus Mort.

    In 1982, Gira formed the band Swans and although the band was not a commercial success, the group had many devoted fans and received notice from the critics. Gira disbanded the Swans in 1997 after becoming frustrated with the record companies.

  • Post Swans

    After the break up of the Swans, Gira released a solo album and went on to form the band, The Angels of Light. He also experimented with music in what he called the "The Body Lovers Project."

  • The Writer

    Gira wrote a collection of short stories in 1995 called "The Consumer" which is divided into two parts: "The Consumer" and "Several Traps, Some Weaknesses". The stories contain disturbing images and scenes.
