Semi-retired CART and Formula One driver Michael Andretti runs the Andretti Green Racing team in the Indy Racing League.
Early Career
Andretti was born to a racing family, as his father, Mario Andretti was a highly successful race car driver also. He entered the CART series in 1984, competing in his first Indianapolis 500 the same year. He was also selected as the Rookie of the Year of the Indy 500.
Andretti holds the record for the most laps led in the Indy 500 at 431, however he has never won. His closest race was in 1991, when he finished second.
Formula One
In 1993, Andretti joined the McLaren Formula One racing team. His 1993 season was unsuccessful, which led to Andretti leaving the team following the season.
Back to CART
Andretti returned to CART in 1994, where he was highly successful for the following several years. He retired from racing following the 2003 Indy 500.
Andretti Green
Following his retirement in 2003, Andretti joined with Kim Green to form Andretti Green Racing, which fields cars in the Indy Racing League.
Indy 500 Comeback
Andretti returned to racing as a driver in 2006, partly an effort to finally win the prestigious Indy 500 title and partly to help his son Marco. Andretti raced in the 2006 and 2007 Indy 500 races before retiring from driving again in 2007.
