  • The Miami Hurricanes Men's Basketball team plays NCAA Men's Basketball in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The athletic department at Miami has primarily been known of the years for it's dominance in Miami Hurricanes Football| football and baseball. Yet the basketball has had some noteworthy moments of their own. The program appeared in several post-season tournaments during the 1960's, primarily boosted by the All-American play of basketball hall of famer Rick Barry. The program actually was disbanded for 15 years in the 1970s and early 1980s, but was then relaunched in 1985. In 1990, the program joined the Big East Conference, and returned to the NCAA Tournament in 1998 following a 48 year absence. 1998 was in fact the first of three straight tournament appearances under then coach Leonard Hamilton, and in 2000, they won a share of the regular season conference title. In 2004, the program left the Big East and joined the Atlantic Coast Conference. Legendary players from the school's history besides Barry have included Tim James, Tito Horford, John Salmons, Constantin Popa, Dick Hickox, and Don Curnutt.
