The Miami Dolphins are a professional football team that play in the East Division of the AFC. In their franchise history, the Dolphins have won 12 Division Championships, five AFC Conference Championships, two League Championships and two Super Bowl Championships.
The Dolphins joined the American Football League in 1965, then later joined the National Football League in 1970 when the two leagues merged. They won the AFC Championship in 1971, but they lost Super Bowl VI to the Dallas Cowboys with a score of 24-3. The following year the team recorded a perfect season with a record of 17-0 winning all their regular season games, the playoffs, and Super Bowl VII against the Washington Redskins with a score of 14-7. The following year they recorded a record of 12-2 and won Super Bowl VIII against the Minnesota Vikings 24 -7.
Arguably the most recognizable face of the Miami Dolphins franchise is quarterback Dan Marino. Drafted in 1983 out of the University of Pittsburgh, he would play his entire 16-year career with the Dolphins. Some of his highlights include the NFL MVP in 1984, eight-time All-Pro quarterback, nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback, and 31 franchise records.
