Mia Wasikowska is an Australian actress. She has been acting since 2004 when she made her debut in the Australian soap opera All Saints, and made a name for herself in the United States for the first with her nine week stint as Sophie on the HBO drama series In Treatment in 2006.
She is set to gain international fame and stardom with her portrayal of Alice in the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland, which is directed by Tim Burton.
Youth not wasted on the Young
Wasikowska received a Young Actor's AFI Award nomination for her work in the 2006 film Suburban Mayhem. Her performance while guest starring on In Treatment received rave reviews, particularly for her spot-on American accent.
In 2008, she made her American film debut in the Edward Zwick directed film Defiance, which also starred Daniel Craig. She then played the role of Elinor Smith in the film Amelia. The role was that of the rival to Hilary Swank's title role.
In addition to her breakthrough role in Alice in Wonderland, which also stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway, she is currently slated to appear in the role of 'Joni' in The Kids Are All Right (which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival), and will soon start shooting in the title role of Jane Eyre.
