MGMT is demanding some sort of compensation from the French president Nicolas Sarkozy after Sarkozy used their song "Kids" at a political rally and in two online campaign videos. Sarkozy's representatives apologized for the "mistake" and offered to pay the duo a "symbolic gesture" of one Euro. MGMT's attorney has rejected the offer, saying "This offer is disrespectful of the rights of artists and authors. It is insulting."Perez Hilton: Indie Group MGMT... (February 27, 2009)
The band settled their dispute with Sarkozy in May 2009 and plan to donate the settlement they received to a charity for bands that endure similar legal issues.http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/mgmt-settles-sarkozy-dispute_1101861
