    Many of the downtown buildings and schools were closed due to the deadly outbreak of the H1N1 swine flu.   • February 2008 Earthquake

    A 6.4-magnitude earthquake was reported in southern Mexico on February 12, 2008. It occurred at approximately 6:50 a.m/ local time and was centered in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez. No major damage was reported. It was the second quake in two days for Mexico.
