Change to First-Person
Almost every game in the Metroid series of games had been a side-scrolling sprite-based game until the release of Metroid Prime. Though it had originally been planned as a third-person shooter with 3D graphics, the game was reimagined as a first-person shooter at the behest of Nintendo superstar creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The first-person interface added some interesting innovations to the game, not the least of which was the visor worn by Samus. After acquiring the appropriate power-ups, players could toggle among various different visor visualization modes, including x-ray vision and infrared vision. At times when the lighting is right, the player can see the reflection of Samus' eyes, enhacing the sense that the game is being seen from behind the visor.
