• Story

  Covert operative Solid Snake is sent under cover of snow and darkness into the Shadow Moses military base, with orders to destroy an enormous walking mech capable of launching a nuclear missle from anywhere in the world. Series producer Hideo Kojima's labyrinthine storytelling may be difficult to grasp, but the story featured in this game is the most accessible of the series, which features a cast of interesting characters and intense action.

• Gameplay

  This is an updated version of the game that defined stealth action in 3D, with some tweaks that both help and hinder the gameplay. Some have complained that a first person camera view changes some fundamental game challenges, but players will appreciate the up-to-date capability to look down your gun sights. An enemy-sensing radar is the most important bit of equipment that Solid Snake has, along with an arsenal of weapons and items that aid you in your stealth. You can choose how to play the game, either killing your enemies (with not-so-solid shooting controls) or going the stealth route and sneaking by your adversaries. Varied and extremely creative bosses spice up the action and keep you playing.
