  • Psyche Gauge

The psyche gauge is the second bar beneath the life bar and measures Snake's psychological well-being in MGS4. It is directly related to the stress and life gauges. The higher his psyche gauge, the better the accuracy. His life gauge also fills more quickly if the psyche gauge is higher. The lower the gauge, the more stressed Snake is and the poorer his marksmanship. There are certain items that can increase this gauge, e.g., noodles, while other items increase the replenishing rate.

The best way to keep the gauge full is to take note of Snake's comments as to his physical comfort, e.g., too cold, too hot, equipment too heavy.

The stress gauge can only reach 80% when Snake is not engaged in combat. When he is in alert or combat mode, it can reach 100%. It also provides an adrenalin boost where he dismisses damage done for a short amount of time. Once combat is finished, however, Snake becomes severely weakened. You can read magazines to recover Snake's psyche gauge and smoke cigarettes to make him less stressed.
