The four female bosses in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots comprise "The Beauty and the Beasts" unit. Each of the character's name references a boss from a prior Metal Gear Solid title. They all suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder due to battle experiences. The only way they were able to cope with their psychological conditions was to be transformed into war machines. Their inner appearances, based on four professional models, are referred to as "Beauty," while their outer machine appearances are referred to as "Beast." The female voice actors performed the original lines that were then later overdubbed by Fred Tatasciore to create a split-voice effect.
