Michelle Lynn Johnson is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, bassist, and multi-instrumentalist - popularly known as Me'Shell Ndegeocello. Her music style is inspired by funk, soul and rock. She began writing songs at age 16. Pursuing her passion, Me'Shell focused more intensively on music, and went on to study for a music history degree at Howard University. In 1993, she released the album, "Plantation", which featured the hit single "If That's Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night)". She has released several albums over her career and earned ten Grammy Award nominations.
