Meriadoc Brandybuck

Meriadoc Brandybuck (also known as Merry) is a fictional character that is featured throughout the J.R.R. Tolkien book series The Lord of the Rings. Merry is a hobbit from the shire who becomes one of the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring. He later plays an important role in the war against Sauron.

Throughout the trilogy, Merry is one of of Frodo's best friends and often serves as his protector. Tolkien often described Merry as one of the smartest hobbits that he created.

Born in the Third Age in 2982, Merry was an only child.
