Mercer Mayer is a popular American children's author and illustrator most recognizable for his Little Critter series of books. His first book published was A Boy, a Dog, and a Frog in 1967.
Career
Mayer started peddling his illustrations while he was attending the Honolulu Academy of Arts. He moved to New York City in 1964 and actually threw away his portfolio and started a new one. He worked for an advertising agency until 1976 where he joined the creator of "Little Golden Books". He has illustrated books for authors such as Jane Yolen, Jan Wahl, Jay Williams, among many others.
