About doctor noe
Noe Gold has been a contributor to Variety since 2003, as an editor and writer covering a range of topics including music and movies, media personalities, producers and directors of note and the interface of art and technology. He has been features editor at the Hollywood Reporter, editor-in-chief of Movies USA, Bikini and Guitar World and a columnist for the Village Voice and the New York Daily News. He has served as the Managing Editor of VH1 and a writer/producer for Turner Broadcasting. His entertainment news column, The Daily Fix, was a regular feature of the AOL Entertainment Channel. His stories have appeared in Rolling Stone, GQ, USA Today, Premiere, The Movies and The Los Angeles Times Magazine. As a writer-researcher on the arcana of film lore, he has specialized in detailing the backstory of films and filmmakers, and their often biographical subjects. He has worked on various production notes packages (for a time as Staff Writer at Paramount) and done a lot of expository writing about the behind-the-scenes of the filmmaking process involved in the classic cinema during a 2-year stint as the writer of interstitial programming for the "TBS Award Saturday" movie show.
He is the author of articles and books on Rock Trivia, Jimi Hendrix, Ry Cooder, Miles Davis, and many other pop cultural icons. His company Guitar Galaxy began as a side project to his work as founding editor of Guitar World which was variously involved with distributing videos and producing such seminal audio works as The Guitar World According to Frank Zappa as well as devices for guitarists designed by his partner Roger Mayer, resident electronics genius for Jimi Hendrix. The Guitar Galaxy brand recently took on a new life when he released on DVD (available via http://doctornoemedia.blogspot.com/) an interview he'd done with the late blues guitarist Roy Buchanan. A full-length documentary based on the original material is now in development.
