However, Mesnick later broke off their engagement during the season's reunion show. In May 2009, Rycroft came in third place on Dancing with the Stars. Shawn Johnson was crowned the winner while Gilles Marini came in second place.

  Rycroft was a last minute replacement on the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars for Nancy O'Dell, who was undergoing knee surgery. • Melissa Injured

  Melissa injured her ribs during week 7 but continued to dance. During week 8 she found out she had a hairline fracture on her rib. She was given the ok to dance by her doctor but at the end of the last rehearsal she was in too much pain to continue.   Single father Jason Mesnick chose Rycroft and Molly Malaney as the final two women to get a rose, after the overnight fantasy date segment of the show. At the end of the season, Mesnick choose Rycroft as the woman for him.

  Rycroft wore a pinkie ring on her left hand, and the preview showed a pinkie ring on the winner's hand. Later sources revealed that Molly Malaney also wore a pinkie ring, but it was on her right hand.
