Actress Melinda Dillon played the role of Ralphie's mother in the 1983 comedy A Christmas Story. She began her career as improvisational comedian in the early 1960s. In 1962 she starred in the original Broadway production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and the role led the the nomination of a Tony Award for Best supporting Actress.
