Melinda and Melinda is a comedy drama written and directed by Woody Allen. It was released on October 29, 2004 and grossed $3,825,351 in the United States. The movie stars Wallace Smith as Sy, who discusses the fine line between tragedy and comedy with a few friends over dinner. Throughout the rest of the movie, two versions of the story of Melinda, played by Radha Mitchell are told, one of tragedy and one of humor.
Plot Synopsis
Melinda and Melinda is a comedy drama about two sides of the story of Melinda, played by Radha Mitchell. Sy, played by Wallace Smith discusses how there are two sides to every story, tragedy and humor, depending on how one puts the pieces of the story together. On one side of the story, Melinda goes to a party held by Laurel and Lee, played by Chloe Sevigny and Jonny Lee Miller. She is drunk and under the influence of drugs, then loses custody of her children. Later she gets involved with composer Ellis Moonsong, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who makes her promises he cannot keep.
The funny side of the story sees Melinda going to the home of friends Susan and Hobie, played by Amanda Peet and Will Ferrell. While at the party, Susan tries to set Melinda up with a well-to-do dentist.
