Actor and director Mel Ferror died in his sleep on June 2, 2008.
According to family members, the 90 year-old former husband of Audrey Hepburn had been suffering from failing health for six months and had recently moved from his home to a convelescent home in Santa Barbara.

Mel Ferrer portrayed of the character of an injured puppeteer in the musical Lili and as Prince Andrei Bolkonsky in a film adaptation of War and Peace.Despite these successes, Ferrer reportedly considered his work behind the camera more influential than his acting roles.
He directed more than 10 feature films in his career including Wait Until Dark and Green Mansions, both of which starred Audrey Hepburn.
