The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, also known as Northern Cyprus, declared its independence in 1983. The UN Security Council described the attempt to create the new country as "legally invalid", called for the withdrawal of the declaration of independence and asked all countries not to recognize the Northern Cyprus.
