The nature documentary Meerkat Manor is about a family of meerkats named the Whiskers filmed in the Kalahari Desert.
Background
The Whiskers are one of over a dozen families of meerkats being studied in the Kalahari Desert as part of the Kalahari Meerkat Project. This is a long-termed project that is focused on the ecological consequences and evolutionary causes of the cooperative behaviors of meerkats. Also being studied is the reproduction success of meerkats, and the monitoring of overall plant and animal populations within the area.
Reviews
"The most popular show on the cable network and an Emmy nominee for best nonfiction series, Meerkat Manor draws as many as one million viewers per episode, and its success has even sparked a full-length feature film, now in the works from the unlikely combination of the BBC and producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein."—City Journal
