MediaWiki is the an wiki software used by Wikipedia and many other sites (including Mahalo). The software was created to handle the content needs of Wikipedia and released as open source software. The software saves previous versions of a page, allowing users to see a page's history and correct a page if an error is made.

The flower-based MediaWiki logo was originally part of a contest to pick the logo for Wikipedia. It came in 3rd place for the contest and was chosen for use with MediaWiki instead. The flower photo in the logo was photographed by Florence Nibart-Devouard. The double brackets in the logo symbolize a common usage of the MediaWiki markup language.
