Meatballs

Meatballs are a favorite food made in many styles and flavors. Served as an accompanying meat to a pasta and sauce, or in a sub for a lunch time sandwich, meatballs can be bought prepackaged or made from scratch. Meatball recipes are often passed from generation to generation.

Most recognized as an Italian food accompaniment to spaghetti the compact seasoned sphere of meat may be made from beef, chicken, pork, turkey or even tofu for a vegetarian meatball.

For cooking means, meatballs can be grilled. baked, fried, or cooked in a crockpot. Recipes can be simple containing only meat, a few seasonings and a simple sauce or complex involving fresh herbs, chopped vegetables, and coatings like bread or cracker crumbs.

Meatballs are coated in a variety of sauces depending on the dish they are supporting. A meatball and gravy recipe may serve as a main course, or a meatball may be incorporated into a casserole to expand the use of the meat and stretch it further through the meal service.
