During a forum and debate between presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, on August 17, 2008, Barack Obama was supposed to have been asked questions while John McCain was in, what Pastor Rick Warren called, a "cone of silence," a soundproof location where he would be unable to hear the questions posed to his opponent. On August 17, 2008, the McCain campaign confirmed that McCain had not been in a "cone of silence," but instead had been in his motorcade on the way to the forum while Obama was being questioned. The McCain campaign denied that the Republican candidate had heard his opponent's responses prior to his arrival at the forum.CBS News: McCain's "Cone Of Silence" At Saddleback (August 18, 2008)
