According to reports, speculation of a romantic affair between Republican presidential candidate John McCain and political lobbyist Vicki Iseman increased after a New York Times feature. Both McCain and Iseman have reportedly denied any romantic involvement.

Vicki Iseman filed a defamation suit against the New York Times on December 30, 2008, seeking $27 million in damages. The suit alleges that a New York Times feature article depicting the affair gave readers the impression that McCain and herself had engaged in an "illicit and inappropriate romantic relationship."
