  • Formed in 1964, MC5 are a hard rock band from Detroit, Michigan. They have been particularly influential on the development of punk rock, though they preceded that movement by at least a decade. MC5's music—a supercharged blend of early rock, R&B; and Blues—has heavily influenced other Detroit bands, like The White Stripes and The Dirtbombs, but also the whole spectrum of punk-ish hard rock, including San Diego's now-defunct Rocket from the Crypt. Other bands have been affected by MC5's radical political stance that their music. These include Rage Against the Machine, [[Against Me!]], Anti-Flag and The Clash.
