  • Maya Gabeira is a professional surfer from Brazil who has been called by the Los Angeles Times, the "super woman" of surfing.

    In 2007, Gabeira won the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Award for Best Women's Overall Performance, and is one of three finalists for the 2008 award. Gabeira is one of the few female "tow-surfers," or surfers who are towed out to massive wave sets via jet ski. Gabeira has surfed such legendary and dangerous beaches as Waimea Bay in Hawaii and Teahupoo in Tahiti.
