  • Russian professional hockey player Maxim Afinogenov plays with the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League. Afinogenov has represented Russia in the World Cup of Hockey, the World Ice Hockey Championships and the Winter Olympics.
  • NHL Career

    Afinogenov was drafted 69th overall in the 1997 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He continued to play for the HC Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Super League for two years before joining the Sabres for his NHL debut in 1999. Afinogenov split his first season between the Sabres and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He missed the majority of the 2002-03 season with a head injury. Afinogenov returned to the Russian Super League during the 2004-05 NHL Lockout and also represented Russia in the 2006 Winter Olympics.
