The Mavericks Surf Contest is a world famous annual surfing competition held just north of Half Moon Bay in northern California. It is named after the location of the competition. Because the quality of the surf is weather-dependent, the contest is usually announced with only 24 hours' notice, and top surfers drop everything to attend.
