Career
Sendak has spent the past fifty years bringing fantasy and imagination to the minds of children. His most popular work is Where the Wild Things Are, this book was the first children's book to have scary monsters. Parents were very concerned about the grotesque characters. He illustrated Else Holmelund Minarik's Little Bear series of books, which was turned into a successful television series. He also created the children's television program Seven Little Monsters.

- His most famous book, "Where the Wild Things Are", was originally going to be titled, "Where the Wild Horses Are." He gave that up when he discovered he couldn't draw horses.
- His studio is a large barn in Connecticut.
- The Educational Paperback Association listed him in its Top-100 Children's Authors.
- First pilot for Sesame Street: Bob gathers the kids on the steps of 123 Sesame Street, and reads a book to them: "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. The kids attempt to read along with him.
