On May 17, 2009, Dowd admitted that she inadvertently plagiarized a portion of a blog by Talking Points Memo editor Josh Marshall. The column in question appeared in Dowd's NY Times column entitled Cheney, Master of Pain on May 17, 2009. Plagiarism

On May 17, 2009, Maureen Dowd said that she inadvertently plagiarized a portion of a blog post by Josh Marshall. According to Dowd, she had never read Marshall's May 14, 2009 post in the Talking Points Memo. Dowd told the Huffington Post that a friend of hers emailed her the phrase in question without mentioning the origin of the phrase. Dowd's column, with the plagiarized phrase, Cheney, Master of Pain appeared in the May 17, 2009 edition of the New York Times.
