    Stajan was drafted 57th overall in the 2002 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He continued to play for his junior team, the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League, before joining the Maple Leafs in 2003 for his NHL debut. Stajan played 69 games with the Maple Leafs in the 2003-04 season, then played for their American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John's Maple Leafs during the 2004-05 NHL lockout. He returned to the Toronto Maple Leafs after the lockout and renewed his contract with the franchise in 2006.
