Matt Treanor

  • Matt Treanor is an American Major League Baseball player. He plays catcher for the Florida Marlins and is married to professional volleyball player Misty May-Treanor.

    Treanor was originally drafted right out of high school by the Kansas City Royals on June 2, 1994 at age 18. He was placed with the Royals' minor league affiliates for his first few seasons. The Royals traded Treanor to the Florida Marlins on July 29, 1997, where he continued to play in the minors.

    In 2003 he met Misty May-Treanor, and the couple married the next year. Treanor also made his MLB debut in 2004 on June 2. He played a total of 29 games his rookie season. During the 2005 season Treanor earned a full roster spot with the Marlins, playing in 58 games. His 2006 season was also successful, where he earned his first homerun on June 20, playing in a career high 67 games. In 2007 he was awarded the Charlie Hough Good Guy Award, given to the player with the best media relations.
