Matt Pettinger is a professional ice hockey player for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League.
Pettinger was drafted by the Washington Capitals during the second round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Shortly after winning bronze with Canada's World Junior Championship team, Pettinger joined the Capitals' American Hockey League affiliate, the Portland Pirates for the 2000-2001 season. He played ten games with the Capitals that season and then 61 the following season. After being sent back to the juniors for the 2002-2003 season, Pettinger played another full season with the Capitals in 2003-2004, and then went overseas to play in Slovenia during the locked out 2004-2005 season.
Pettinger was back with the Capitals for the 2005-2006 season, during which he earned a career high of 38 points. At the 2008 trade deadline, Pettinger was traded to the Vancouver Canucks for more aggressive left-winger Matt Cooke.
