Major League Baseball outfielder Matt Holliday currently plays for the St. Louis Cardinals. Holliday was acquired by the Cardinals from the Oakland Athletics on July 24, 2009. In 2006, he won a Silver Slugger award and in 2007 he finished second in voting for the National League Most Valuable Player Award to Jimmy Rollins of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Early Life
Matthew Thomas Holliday was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on January 15, 1980. He attended High school at Stillwater High School where he garnered interest from college football programs to play quarterback, but he ended up forgoing college and chose to enter the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft.MLB.com: Matt Holliday -
Pro Career
Holliday was selected in the 7th round of the 1998 draft by the Colorado Rockies. He made his major league debut on January 15, 1980 for the big league team. In his first season he would hit .290 with 14 homeruns, while establishing himself as an everyday player for the team. In 2006 he would be elected to the National League All-Star Team for the first time. He also won his first Silver Slugger Award. His big breakout season would come in 2007 where he would hit .340 with 36 homeruns while leading the Colorado Rockies to their first ever World Series appearance.
