Matt Chico

  • Matt Chico is a left-handed pitcher for the Washington Nationals. After attending Fallbrook Union High School, the Boston Red Sox selected Chico in the 2nd round of the 2001 amateur draft. He declined a contract however, and went on to play baseball at Palomar College. Following his collegiate career, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected him in the 3rd round of the 2003 draft. After being traded by the Diamondbacks, Chico made his MLB debut with the Nationals on April 4, 2007.

    • June 5, 2001: Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2001 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox (Declined contract).
    • June 3, 2003: Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2003 amateur draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

  • Strengths

    Chico is very precise with his 90+ mph fastball, which he compliments with a solid change-up and curve. He also takes advantage of a deceptive delivery.[1]
  • Weaknesses

    Chico does not have overwhelming stuff, and needs to mix his pitches and speeds in order to be effective.[1]
