Matt Capps is a right-handed pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates drafted Capps in the 7th round of the 2002 amateur draft. Midway through the 2007 season, Capps became the team's primary closer. After a few years as a pitching prospect in the Pirates farm system, Capps made his major league debut withe the Pirates on September 16, 2005. Capps recorded his first save in 2006, and the following season he would record 18 saves, becoming the Pirates primary closer.
Strengths
Capps is hard throwing right-hander, with a 95 mph fastball. He has proven to be durable, and can pitch consecutive games without rest.[1]
Weaknesses
Capps does not have an impressive repertoire of pitches, and tends to overuse his good fastball, which makes him predictable.[1]
