Mats Sundin is a Swedish-born professional hockey player. He currently plays for the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League.
Sundin began the 2008-09 season as a free agent. Since joining the NHL in 1990, Sundin has consistently recorded a minimum of 70 points each season, with the exception of his rookie season and the shortened 1994-95 season.
NHL Career
In 2007, Sundin set new Leafs franchise records for most goals and most points. Sundin was named the first European-born Maple Leafs captain in 1997 and has retained the title for ten years, making him the second longest serving captain in the NHL, next to the Colorado Avalanche's Joe Sakic.
Sundin is the first Swedish player to score 500 NHL goals, reach 1000 points and has the most career goals, assists and points of any Swedish NHL player.
International Competition
Sundin has competed for his home country in three Winter Olympics: 1998, 2002 and 2006, when Sweden took the gold medal. He has represented Sweden in six World Championship Tournaments, at which they won a medal every time.
