Heath Ledger won a posthumous Academy Award for best supporting actor on February 22, 2009, leaving the Oscar committee in a quandary over what to do with the award. TMZ.com reported on January 29, 2009, that a settlement had been reached in the insurance case with ReliaStar Life Insurance Company. The insurance company stalled their $10 million payout to investigate the possibility that Ledger's death may have been a suicide instead of an accident.
