Canadian professional hockey player Mathieu Dandenault is a defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League. Although he played as a forward throughout his junior career, upon joining the NHL, Dandenault transitioned into a solid defenseman with strong offensive skills.
Dandenault broke his left arm during a December 9, 2008, game against the Calgary Flames. He underwent surgery to correct the injury the following day and will be sidelined indefinitely.ESPN.com: Dandenault Has Surgery on Broken Left Arm
NHL Career
Mathieu Dandenault was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut in the 1995-1996 season, earning 12 points in 34 games. He remained with the Red Wings for the next eight seasons, during which they won the Stanley Cup three times: In 1997, 1998 and 2002.
Up for free agency following the locked out 2004-2005 season, during which he played in Italy, Dandenault signed with the Montreal Canadiens.
