Match.com

  • Match.com is an online dating Web site where singles can create profiles about themselves and meet each other. The site currently services 24 countries on five continents and has international offices in Beijing and Tokyo. It is owned by IAC/InterActiveCorp; the CEO is Greg Blatt. Match.com also owns the dating sites Chemistry.com and DownToEarth.com.
  • History

Gary Kremen and Peng T. Ong started Match.com in 1994 as a site for online classified ads. The site went to live beta in April of 1995. Cendant purchased the site in 1998, and IAC/InterActiveCorp took over a year later. The original CEO was Jim Safka, but Thomas Enraght-Moony took over in 2007 and Greg Blatt took over in February 2009.
  • Community and Culture

There are more than 15 million members on Match.com and about 1.35 million paying subscribers. People over 50 make up the fastest-growing segment of the site's demographics. Match.com has faced allegations, however, that it uses fake profiles to entice visitors.
