Marzipan

Marzipan is a confection made primarily from sugar, ground almonds, and often egg whites. Other optional ingredients include rosewater, honey, and pistachios. Because of its texture, its consistency and how easy it is to dye, it is often used to make miniature flowers, fruit, vegetables and other shapes.

The Word Marzipan

Marzipan evolved from the Italian word marzapane. The Italian word comes from the name of a port in Myanmar, Martaban, which was known for its glazed jars, often full of sweets, which were sold to the West.
