The Maryland Terrapins college football team plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were one of the original teams that helped to formulate the ACC in 1953. That same season, they won their only undisputed national championship, having also won a share of the mythical title in 1951. The Terrapins are currently coached by Ralph Friedgen.
On February 6, 2009, the Terrapins announced that current offensive coordinator James Franklin will succeed head coach Ralph Freidgen, when his contract expires in 2012.ESPN.com: Franklin to Succeed Friedgen as Coach

In addition to current head man (and 1970 alum) Friedgen, legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant got his head coaching start with Maryland in 1945. Current Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer was once a graduate assistant. Bobby Ross led the Terrapins to four bowl games and two ACC titles in five years. Lee Corso, was the quarterbacks coach at Maryland before coaching at Louisville and Indiana.Great Years, Great Players
The team has won nine ACC Championships, the most recent of these coming in 2001. Among the great players in Maryland history include Randy White, E.J.
