Mary Wells

Wells grew up poor and helper her mother with cleaning jobs when she was young. Her first song "Bye, Bye, Baby" was recorded in 1960. She was one of the early stars of Motown Records and had several hit singles, including My Guy and You Beat Me to the Punch. In 1990, she was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer. The treatment ravaged her voice, forcing her to quit her career in music. She had to sell her home for her treatment. On July 22, 1992, at the age of 49, she passed away. She is buried in Glendale's Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
