Mary I of England, also known as Mary Tudor or Bloody Mary, was the daughter of King Henry VIII of England and Catherine of Aragon. She became Henry's illegitimate child when her parents marriage was annulled.
Mary was the fourth monarch crowned from the Tudor dynasty and is largely remembered for having reinstated Roman Catholicism to England. She had almost three hundred religious dissenters burned at the stake during what became known as the Marian Persecutions. Her successor and half-sister Elizabeth I would restore the Church of England following Mary's death.
