Marvel Zombies takes place in an alternate reality where many of Marvel Comics' most famous characters are turned into undead zombies hungry for human (and super-human) flesh.
Secret Origins of the Zombie Plague
Although they were introduced in the Ultimate Fantastic Four series of comics, the Marvel Zombies originate in Marvel's alternate Earth-2149 universe. Originally a biological weapon wielded by Magneto, it spread from Earth-2149 after being carried by the dimension-hopping Sentry.
Can't Keep a Dead Man Down
The initial mini-series was received so well as to have the Marvel Zombies appear in a four-part crossover with Marvel's own Black Panther series and a five-part crossover with Dynamite Entertainment's Army of Darkness series. It also received a one-shot entitled Marvel Zombies: Dead Days. A sequel to the original mini-series entitled Marvel Zombies 2 ran between October 2007 and February 2008.
