  • Football Career

    Smith began his career playing college football with the Arizona State Sun Devils in 1997. He was drafted 38th overall in the second round of the 2000 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Smith made his NFL debut that same year, starting in nine games with the Steelers. He continued with the Steelers, playing every game in 2001 and 2002, before he was sidelined with neck injury in 2003. Following his return to the field, Smith was selected for his first Pro Bowl in 2005.     Smith was placed on injured reserve by the Steelers on December 23, 2008, with a back injury. He had been sidelined since October 5, 2008, with sources reporting that he will require season-ending surgery.
