Martti Ahtisaari is a diplomat affiliated with the United Nations and the former President of Finland. He has participated in various diplomatic projects in Africa and was appointed as the UN's Special Envoy for the Kosovo Status Process. Kosovo Involvement
In November, 2005, Ahtisaari was appointed by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan as the Special Envoy for the Kosovo Status Process. Kosovo had been under the United Nations administration since 1999s Kosovo War, and Ahtisaari's project was to determine whether Kosovo should be declared a sovereign state. He created the Ahtisaari Plan and declared the project finished in July 2007.
