Czech professional hockey player Martin Straka currently plays for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League. He has won two Olympic medals with the Czech Team. Straka previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Kings.
NHL Career
Straka was drafted 19th overall in the 1992 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He played only two seasons with the Penguins before he was traded to the Ottawa Senators on April 7, 1995. Less than a year later he was sent to the New York Islanders on January 23, 1996. He played 22 games with the Islanders, then was waived and picked up by the Florida Panthers on March 15, 1996. Straka returned to the Penguins as a free agent on August 6, 1997, where he played for the next seven seasons. The Penguins traded him to the Los Angeles Kings on November 30, 2003. He played in the Czech Republic during the 2004-05 NHL lockout then returned to the states, signing with the New York Rangers on August 2, 2005.
