Czech professional ice hockey player Martin Skoula plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. Skoula was drafted 17th overall in the 1998 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Following the draft, he played with the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League before joining the Avalanche in 1999 for his NHL debut. He played nearly every game with the Avalanche for nearly five seasons, including helping the team win the Stanley Cup Championships in 2002. On February 21, 2004, Skoula was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, where he finished the 2003-04 season before entering free agency. He signed with the Dallas Stars on August 3, 2005, and played 61 games in Dallas before he was traded to the Minnesota Wild on March 9, 2006. Skoula would spend parts of four seasons with Minnesota before leaving as an unrestricted free agent after failing to make the Florida Panthers and Columbus Blue Jackets on training camp invitations he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins on September 29th, 2009.
On March 3, 2010 Pittsburgh included Skoula in a package to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a trade for Alex Ponikarovsky, and was later flipped to the New Jersey Devils before playing any games for Toronto.http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=312141
